“From where do you get your ideas” is the common question asked by people to most of the cartoonists. Most of the people think that there is a secret method that the cartoonists use to make a beautiful cartoon. But, reality is different from this.
In fact, the most difficult part of this job and the part which most of the successful cartoonists have learned to cultivate is the method of generating ideas. Once a person masters the art of cartooning, they will have a wide array of ideas at the tip of their pencil.
Although there are no easy and fast step methods for accomplishing a cartooning session, there are some principles that should be kept in mind as one begins their career in cartooning. The first important thing that should be kept in mind is to practice a lot. All of us know that practice makes a man perfect. This is true in every context, no matter whether you play sports, learn to play instrument or begin your career as a cartoonist.
You must practice making cartoons every day. When you start making cartoons daily, you will find that new ideas start coming to your mind. The next important thing that needs to be considered is to carry a sketchpad every time with you.
When you make your entry in the world of cartooning, ensure that you carry a sketchpad with you all time. If you carry it all the time, you can start drawing cartoons whenever and wherever you feel like doing it. Many times you feel bored by sitting idle, so if you have a sketchpad with you, you can spend your free time by drawing different cartoons.
There might be some people who will not agree with this point as every one of us is really busy. It is true that we are busy, but there are some places where we sit idly like in a waiting room of the doctor’s chamber, waiting at the grocery store, in a movie theater etc.
If you want to create a brainstorming idea through the cartooning you should be at first a good observer. You should consider yourself as a life reporter and record all the things that capture your interest. You should write down everything that one finds interesting, funny, shocking, old etc. Record all the weird thoughts that come to your mind and should make sure that you do not edit your thoughts.
